Plants come in various sizes and structures and lead a wonderful life on Earth till it departs from it. These versatile plants do multitasking enthusiastically which surprises the human beings. This topic will deal with a plant named Mulukhiyah which has nutritious leaves. The botanical name of this plant is Corchorus olitorius. This plant also has several names such as mloukhiya, molokhia, molohiya, mulukhiyya, malukhiyah, or moroheiya, bush okra, Jew mallow and Jute Mallow.

This Egyptian Spinach finds a place in the recipes of several countries like Egypt, Palestine, Kenyan, Tunisia, Cypriot, Levantine and West Africa. Ancient Jewish used these leaves in their cuisine and that is the reason it is called Jewish mallow. These plants are more resistant to damage by pests and produces tones of leaves per hectare. So these plants do not require pesticides or artificial fertilizer. The farmers can harvest the plant after three or four weeks after planting.
Mulukhiyah grows throughout the year and considered as a perennial plant. It grows to a height of 3.5 m at a rapid rate. It flowers during the months of Aug to October and the seeds ripen in the month of October. The flowers have both male and female sex organ. Mulukhiyah grows in light, medium, heavy soils, but prefers moist soils. It cannot grow properly in shady areas.
The leaves are rich in medicinal properties. It cures chronic cystitis, gonorrhea and dysuria. Injections of oilitoriside an extract from the plant improve cardiac functions. Chorchorus olitorius was eaten by the African and Middle-eastern population from ancient period. African used it in a pot-herb called Molokhiya. The material that they used to make Molokhiya, was called Nalita. Nalita is the powder of the dried Molokhiya leaf. The leaves have a component named Lignin. Jute fiber is the finest raw material for composite industries.
